Question

Partial 3rd stimulus but not asking for amount

I just did my BF & daughter's taxes and TT asked both times if they received their 3rd stimulus check and adjusted for not getting the full amount. I'm doing mine and also did not receive the full amount but it is completely skipping asking me. I've tried putting 'stimulus" in the search box and follow the "jump to stimulus" section but there's nothing there.

From the IRS website on eligibility for the third stimulus-

Generally, someone was eligible for the full amount of the third Economic Impact Payment if they:

    • are a U.S. citizen or U.S. resident alien (and their spouse if filing a joint return), and
    • are not a dependent of another taxpayer, and
    • had adjusted gross income (AGI) that is not more than:
      • $150,000 if married and filing a joint return or if filing as a qualifying widow or widower
      • $112,500 if filing as head of household or
      • $75,000 for any other filing status

Payments were phased out – or reduced – above those AGI amounts. This means people did not receive a payment if their AGI was at least:

    • $160,000 if married and filing a joint return or if filing as a qualifying widow or widower
    • $120,000 if filing as head of household
    • $80,000 for any other filing status

Yes, thank you, I read that and should have qualified for the full amount. The TT software is not prompting me to enter the amount I received so it can adjust my refund. Is this a glitch with the program? I've already filed taxes for 2 others, and it asked for both of them.

If you are not prompted for it then there must be a reason it thinks you are not qualified to get any of the Stimulus payment.

Same thing is happening here.  TurboTax is just not asking how much or even if we received any stimulus payment.  Seems like an error in the program to me too.

The stimulus question is asked in Federal Review after you have completed the entries on the federal tax return.

There are only two reasons that the program will not present the stimulus question -

    1.  You are being claimed as a dependent (or)

    2.  Your 2021 Adjusted Gross income is over the maximum to receive the Recovery Rebate Credit

    • Single or married filing separately—$80,000
    • Married filing jointly or qualifying widow(er)—$160,000
    • Head of household—$120,000
