You can deduct the Governmental Services Tax that you paid for your Nevada car registration on your Federal income taxes.  Go to the Deductions and Credits section of TurboTax and follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Cars and Other Things You Own section and click Start for Car Registration Fees
  2. Click Yes on Did you pay any car registration fees in 2025?
  3. Enter the vehicle information and the amount of the Governmental Services Tax for Nevada.  If you have a 2nd vehicle, you can click +Add another row and repeat this for the 2nd vehicle.  Click Continue when finished.

California also has itemized deductions and any information entered in the Federal section as itemized deductions will flow to the California return.  TurboTax will automatically determine if the itemized deductions are more beneficial than the standard deduction for both federal and California returns.
