MO-PTE Form

Hello,

I need to report a product defect in TurboTax that has directly cost me over $9,000.

On the Missouri Pass-Through Entity Tax (PTET) election form, there are three mutually exclusive options. Your software allowed me to proceed through filing without selecting any of them — no warning, no required field, no block on continuing. Because of that, I failed to make the PTET election for the 2025 tax year. The election deadline has now passed, and my state will not allow me to go back and fix it. The result is that I am personally out over $9,000 that I would not owe if the election had simply been made, because your software let a required, mutually exclusive decision slip through silently.

This is not a minor cosmetic issue. This is a basic form-validation failure — a required field with no default and no gate on proceeding — on a form where the financial stakes for users are significant. I paid for tax preparation software specifically to avoid this kind of costly oversight, and instead the software's own gap in handling a critical election is what caused it.

I want this fixed before the next filing season, and I want to know that my situation is not going to repeat itself for other filers who are relying on TurboTax to catch exactly this kind of thing. At minimum, this needs to become a required, validated field that cannot be skipped.

I'd appreciate a substantive response on how and when this will be addressed, not just an acknowledgment.

Unfortunately, if the past is any guide, you’re not likely to get anything substantive (as in “it will be rectified”).

You might want to try another product after investigating.
