HSA Deduction for 2024

I am currently doing my 2024 tax return. I do have excess contributions carry over from 2023 and I did not personally contribute any amount to my HSA in 2023 and 2024. Turbo tax shows a deduction amount when I enter the amount from line 48 on form 5329 from 2023. Or since I have not personally contributed any after tax dollars to my HSA, should there be a zero amount for HSA deductions instead? For now I entered zero for this question so that my deduction is zero for HSA.

Just to let you know that when I enter the amount from line 48 on form 5329 from 2023, a deduction does show for 2024. I don’t know if this is correct.

Should I leave the deduction amount or should correct this so that a zero deduction is calculated instead since I did not make any personal contributions to my HSA ?

If you truly had an excess in your HSA for 2023 as reported on your 2023 Form 5329 and you were eligible to contribute to an HSA for 2024, it’s correct that TurboTax treats the the amount of the excess eligible to be applied as a 2024 contribution as being a deductible personal contribution and eliminating that amount of excess for 2024.
