HSA Contributions Help

I am trying to add direct contributions I made from my bank account to my HSA (i.e. not via my employer therefore not on W2). TurboTax is flat out refusing to ask me about this. I found several threads on the TurboTax forum where someone else asked this question and the question was answered with screenshots of what they should be seeing with TurboTax asking about direct HSA contributions. I am not getting asked this.

You can get to the screens in TurboTax to enter your direct HSA contributions using the steps listed below. You must be covered by a HDHP Plan in 2025 to get the deduction for these HSA contributions.

  1. Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type HSA in the search box
  3. Click on the link Jump to HSA
  4. Your screen will say Select the health-related accounts you had in 2025
  5. Click on HSA and Continue
  6. Continue to the screen that will ask if you put money in HSA in 2025, Select Yes and Continue
  7. Your screen will say Let's enter  XXNAMEXX HSA contributions
  8. Enter your contributions there in the second box, personally made (not through your employer) and continue through the screens
  9. On the next screen you must be covered by a High Deductible Health Plan in 2025
  10. Answer all of the follow-up screens to complete your entry

Thank you for having a look.

I'm with you through Step 5. It never asks Step 6, 7 or 8.  After I select that I had an HSA in Step 5 the remaining screens are:

1. 1099-SA Summary where it asks about the gross distribution I had

2. Screen asking "Was Daniel covered by a High Deductible Health Plan in 2025?"  Yes.

3. Screen asking "Do any of these situations apply to Daniel?"

-Daniel had Medicare. No

-Daniel overfunded their HSA last year. No.

-Daniel inherited this HSA. No.

-Daniel had other company contributions that weren't reported to their W-2 or apply to a previous year.  No.

-Daniel failed to maintain HDHP coverage in 2025 due to death and disability. No.

-Daniel made contributions to an Archer MSA. No.

4. Screen asking "What type of HDHP coverage did Daniel have during 2025?" Daniel was covered by a Family plan every month of the year

That's it.  No other screens or questions.

I'm experiencing the same thing! Why can't I update my HSA contribution amount?
