In TurboTax, interest received from a private individual (like your son) is reported as if you received a Form 1099-INT, even if you did not actually receive one.

Where to enter the Interest:

  1. Open your tax return and go to the Federal section, Income category.
  2. Scroll down to the Interest and Savings section and select Start or Revisit next to Interest on 1099-INT.
  3. On the "Save time and connect your financial accounts" screen, choose Enter a different way.
  4. On the "How do you want to add your docs?" choose Type it in myself.
  5. On the "OK, let's start with one investment type" click on Interest, then Continue
  6. Complete the information on the "Let's get the info from your 1099-INT" even though you do not have a 1099-INT.
