Foreign dividend income

I have a Vanguard ETF for "total" stocks. My Charles Schwab 1099-DIV gives a figure for total and qualified dividends. When I go to Supplemental Information (page 18 of the Composite 1099 I see the "Vanguard Total" name followed by a $68 Foreign Tax Paid and a $1,028 entry for Dividends Amount. I assume but cannot prove that the $1,028 is included in the "Total ordinary dividends" (page 1 of the 1099).

The $68 Foreign Tax Paid is shown on page 1,

I work with the Forms option except when it comes to actually e-filing the 1040. I have no problem switching to Step-by-Step where it's necessary, but I find it terribly unwieldy, just as I find the existing discussions on this forum about handling this foreign-tax issue. The forms are so EASY, perhaps because I was using them before TurboTax or indeed computers existed.

Thanks!

@slowreader , Good God, are you from that time ?  A very good sign.

I am not familiar with the exact reporting protocols for   Charles Schwab, but  generally  the  form 1099-DIV  Box 1 would include all dividends,  The later pages only break down that data point in to its components.  I would also expect that Box8 of you 1099-DIV should show the total Foreign taxes  paid and the latter pages provide the details.

Perhaps you should consider  calling your  broker  at this reputable firm and confirm that this is so .

    Does this help ?

Thanks. I did contact Schwab and the tech rep confirmed that Total Ordinary Dividends on page one of my 1099 Composite DOES include the foreign dividends specified much later on page 19.
