Child Tax Credit Question

My wife and I work and we have 2 kids under the age of 6.  Last year when I filed, I was able to receive $ from the child tax credit and it added to our total refund.

I started filing as soon as we received our 2016 W-2s this year and I see I'm supposed to receive a child tax credit, but once I was done with that section, it didn't increase the federal refund.

Here are my 2016 numbers -

Total gross income is $112,557, deductions are $12,600, taxable income is $83,757, total tax is $10,636, and total payments come out to $19,234.  It results in a refund of $8,598.

Here are my 2015 numbers -

Total gross income is $114,721, deductions are $12,600, taxable income is $86,121, total tax is $10,169 (doesn't show total payments in Tax History).  It results in a refund of $8,854.

Am I missing something here?

You must be missing something.  The CTC phases out at $110,000 so you would not get the entire amount, but should get a slightly reduced amount.

What does the CTC interview say?   The CTC would be on line 35 of the 1040A or 52 on a 1040 - what is on that line?

    It's on a 1040.  Line 52 says 1,850.

But it didn't increase the total refund.  Last year's total refund increased when I entered in the data.  This time it didn't.

TurboTax automatically adds the CTC when you enter the child.  Going through the CTC interview does not add it again if it was already there so the refund indicator would not change.  It depends on the sequence of entering income and the child, but in most cases it is automatic whether you use the CTC interview or not.

Then you are getting the CTC.    $1,850 is the correct amount for the figures that you gave.
