Child credit went down

a few days ago my child credit was a little over $8000 and when i logged in today it dropped to only $1000. why did this happen and how can i get it to go back up? we are a low income family and really needed that money. Thank you

I do not understand where the 8000 came from but lets start first with Child Tax Credit. You can receive a maximum Child Tax Credit of 1000 per child under age 17. There is also the EIC or Earned Income Credit that helps low-income families. The credit amount is determined by your income and the total number of children you have. This credit may add back in as you go thru completing your return as will any credit you may receive for childcare expenses as this information is filled in by you.
