Yes, you can deduct your local real estate and personal property taxes on your federal income tax return if you itemize deductions rather than taking the standard deduction.

The deduction is part of the State and Local Tax or SALT deduction, now capped at a total of $40,000 for 2025.

You will enter your property taxes in TurboTax along with your other itemized deductions. These will be reflected on your Schedule A of your Form 1040. If your itemized deductions exceed your standard deduction, than TurboTax will choose that deduction for you.  See: What's my standard deduction for 2025?

To enter your property taxes in TurboTax you can:

  1. Click on Search at the top right of your TurboTax screen
  2. Type property taxes in the search box and enter
  3. Click on the link that says Jump to property taxes
