Question

2025, Form 1116, AMT version, Line 3b explanation will not open

My tax return went thru final review with no issues.  The IRS rejected my return.  Going to "Check E-file Status", I got the following message:
"If for any country in Form 1116, Line 3b 'OtherDeductionsNotRelatedAmt' has a non-zero value, then
[OtherDeductionsNotRelatedStatement] must be attached to Line 3b."

After just reading this message, the program acts as though the error is fixed.  I have tried to resubmit and received the same error.

I have also exited "EasyStep" and gone to the forms themselves.  FYI, I have filled form 1116 out for several years now. When I look at the list of "Federal Forms", I can see under Form 1116 a list that includes "Explanation Stm", but after that, I have Form 1116 AMT which is missing the "Explanation Stm."

When I choose Form 1116 AMT, I go to Part I, under 1b in the "QuickZoom" I choose the the "Line 3 Other Deduction Statement" button "Explanation" under "A."  A window pops up giving me the choice of "Select an existing Explanation Stm" with a list that shows the Form 1116 but not the Form 1116 AMT.  I pick instead the option to "Create a new copy" and select the "Next" button.  The window changes to offer "Select an existing Form 1116 for Explanation Stm."  Again, the AMT versions of the form are not shown.  If I try the option "Enter a name or copy number," it just creates a whole new Form 1116 even after trying to match the AMT name.
I've never had this problem before.  Please help me not get yet another IRS rejection.

Also, I accidentally created an extra Form 1116 (Copy 1) early in my process.  I've told TurboTax multiple times to delete this form, but it keeps being in the pop-up windows but not under the "Federal Forms" list.  When I select it in the pop-up window, I again tell the program to remove the form, but it still appears in pop-ups.

I think we both agree this is a mess. The best thing to do is to start with a clean slate. Delete ALL Form 1116s and ALL related worksheets in the Forms mode in your return. Wipe them all out completely so there is no trace anywhere!! This includes all 1116 AMT related forms and worksheets.

Now go to Federal → Deductions & Credits → Foreign Taxes to reenter the Form 1116.  Once entered, verify that there is an explanation attached to the AMT version without a copy 1.
