College student, need to buy a laptop for online courses coming up, can I still put it on the 2019 taxes? Also how much will a tax deduction cover for the laptop?

You may deduct the total cost of a laptop as education expenses if the equipment is necessary for your curriculum. However, you can only deduct this expense only in the year you paid for it. So if you are buying it in 2020, then you can only deduct it on your 2020 tax return.
