Last year I took 2 classes in the Fall (6 credits) and 1 class in the spring (3 credits). Would that be half time or less than half time student?

It depends on your college. Each college sets their own requirements for what is half time and full time.

If your school classifies full time as 12 credits, then 6 credits is half time.  For purposes of the tuition credits, you are considered half time for the whole year if you were half time for one academic period (fall in your case).
