Confused about educational expenses for occupations vs tuition break

Most likely under education expenses--especially if your receive a Form 1098-T from your school.

Basically, if you are going for a degree or certified at an accrediated college, university, etc. then you can deduct those expenses as tuition and fees which normally provide a bigger deduction or tax credit.

Job related expenses are those not necessary for a degree put improve skills (such as taking an excel training course or Med-Tech class). Education that either maintains or improves job skills or is required to keep your salary or job. However, those are only deductible IF you itemize your deductions and even then only to the extent they exceed 2% of your Adjusted Gross Income.
