I paid back a previous tuition debt last year, can I deduct that?

Last year I payed around $4200 to a college for a previous debt that I had with them so that I can start attending school again. I was wondering if I can deduct that.

Qualified expenses can only be claimed for credit or deduction if you are enrolled at the time they are paid and they are for classes taken during the tax year or the spring term in the following year.
