4yrs Post Secondary Education

I attended community college from 2007- 2010 were I graduated with an Associates in Arts. Returned to school 2013-2014 leading to no degree in that field of study. Returned to school in 2016 and graduated in 2019 with an Associates in HIM. Would all these years be considered 4yrs post secondary education even though it did not lead to a 4yr bachelors degree? Asking for the AOC credit.

4yrs Post Secondary Education

Based upon the years you listed above, you would not be eligible for the American Opportunity Credit (AOC) in 2019.

The AOC can only be claimed for 4 years, requires at least half time enrollment, and the ending result should be either an undergraduate degree or educational credential.

You are still eligible to claim either the Lifetime Learning Credit or the Tuition & Fees deduction.

If you received a 1098-T form, I recommend you go ahead and enter the information:

  1. Go to the Federal section of the program
  2.  Select "Deductions & Credits"
  3.  Select "Expenses and Scholarships (Form 1098-T)" and click start.

The program will select the best deduction for you based upon your specific tax situation.

The following links have additional information regarding all of the education credits for your reference.
