Will my new occupation is car sales always make taxes this difficult? It requires a principal business code for schedule C?

Selling cars has me as "Self-employed. I'm not sure how I should be filing. It's as if turbo tax thinks I own the business and I'm just an employee.

Did you receive Form 1099-NEC? If you did, then your company is classifying you as a non-employee. The IRS treats anyone who is not an employee as self-employed, meaning you’ll have to report your income as a business.

You can claim business deductions to lower your tax, but you’ll be charged income and self-employment tax because your employer did not withhold any tax.

Your business code is either 441110 (new car dealers) or 441120 (used car dealers).

If you sell both, choose the one that’s the best fit.

If you believe you should be treated as an employee you can report your 1099-NEC as W-2 wages.

Use the steps in this post: Employer sent me a 1099-NEC for my last paycheck when it should have been included on my W-2 income ...
