What is a principal business code?

I am an alternate driver for a rural route through the USPS and the route owner sent me a 1099-MISC, and when I put it in, it asks me for a principal business code.

The codes start on page 17 of the publication below:

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040sc.pdf

Pick the one which best fits what you do. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit.
