Schedule C is giving me an error message for Business name

Schedule C requires that a business name be entered – either an actual business name, or your own name since you are a sole proprietor.  If you are seeing an error message, that field may have been left blank as you went through that section of the program. 

The business name is in the Business Profile.  If you do not have a specific name for your business (many people do not), you can use your own name for your business name.  There will be a check box to default to this selection.

Use these steps to go to the Business Profile to edit your business name:

• On the top row of the TurboTax online screen, click on Search (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax locate the search box in the upper right corner)

• This opens a box where you can type in “schedule c” (be sure to enter exactly as shown here) and click the magnifying glass (or for CD/downloaded TurboTax, click Find)

• The search results will give you an option to “Jump to schedule c”

• Click on the blue “Jump to schedule c” link

• Click Edit beside the business name

• Click Edit beside Business Profile

• Click Edit beside Business Name

I click the "search" button in the web browser and it just sends me to a screen with the turbotax help number... I can't get to the other steps and it won't let me check the box to say my name is the business name. It will only let me enter in the "Business Name" box

This can be entered in the General Info screen for the business in question.  The Search mentioned above is within TurboTax and not the browser.

By using the Step-by-Step follow the steps below (TurboTax Desktop or TurboTax Self-Employed.

1. Open your return then select Business income (or Wages & Income)
2. Scroll to Business Income and Expenses > Update or Review
3. Edit Business Profile (or General Info) > Scroll to Business Name > Edit
4. Enter your name or None/Same to clear the error.

Please update the issue if you are still having difficulty.

It's a good idea to clear your cookies and cache from your browser regularly so that your computer forgets what you want it to.

This didn't resolve the issue, it is still telling me to review my numbers and doesn't properly link anything to schedule C

Where are you seeing the error?

Basically, all Income/Expenses/Assets related to your Business are entered in the same section in TurboTax.

Type 'schedule c' in the Search area and click on 'Jump to schedule c'.
