I have a general business credit carryforward from 2022 to 2023. On the 3800 form, field 4 on my 2023 fed return, the field shows as blank after I enter my 2023 K-1 from the S-Corp. The correct # is $38k or whatever, but Turbotax says I must "override the field" when editing the 3800 form to enter the correct number there. It then says the override will cause problems. If I double-click the field, it doesn't take me anywhere to do the computation. Where else would I enter that credit carryforward? I could just override it, but I'm trying to avoid discrepancies that will trigger an issue down the road. Thanks

I found the solution.
Please go to "3800 Worksheet" in Forms View. Scroll down almost all the way to the bottom to the section named "Credit Carryforwards and Carrybacks". On lines 1-6, enter the details for your carryforward credit. Once done, you will see the amount reflected in Part IV of Form 3800 and then ripple up to Form 3800, line 4.
No overrides will be necessary.
It worked for me. It should work for you. Good luck.
I'm having the exact same issue. Here's what I'm seeing on my end, which is NOT an answer.
The form where it's supposed to be showing your carryover amount and other details is Form 3800 Part IV. I figured this out by reading through all pages of Form 3800 in Forms View and on a desktop version of TurboTax. Instead of performing your override on Form 3800, Part I, line 4, you could populate Part IV (via overrides) which will then ripple through to Form 3800, Part I, line 4. But again, this solution also involves making overrides!
The part that TurboTax was able to handle correctly for me was in the "Carryover Wks", line 18 ("General Business Credit"). The column labelled 2022 does indeed show the correct amount that needs to be carried forward into 2023. Where I think TurboTax fails is what I've described in the previous paragraph.
I'll venture to guess that this is a bug.
Standing by for an expert to chime in.
you're asking about your s-corp return? if so there is no credit c/f. the credit passes through to the shareholders and they are the ones with the c/f.

Its my personal return, but the carryover credit was from the S-Corp via pass-thru
Yup; that's it! Thanks
I have the same glitch for 2024. The error message insists that there is no detailed entry for Line 38 when indeed there is... I also added text where indicated... How do I overcome this issue? I reported it to Intuit but I have been ignored...
It would be helpful to have the TurboTax files to test this issue further, especially if you can provide both 2023 and 2024 tax years.
If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:
In TurboTax Desktop, open your current return and go to Online in the TurboTax header. (On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help.)
We will then be able to see the same experience you are having. If we are able to determine the cause, we'll reply here and provide you with a resolution.
Hello @PatriciaV - I followed your instructions exactly, but I have received 5 "undeliverable" replies!
If you happen to read this, my token numbers from March 7 are as follows:
170138272-79629689
170138272-53958685
This is extremely frustrating that I cannot file my returns online. I have already paid the state filing fee but can do nothing.
From other posts, my suspicions of a TT glitch seem to be confirmed. Can you advise?
Thank you:)!
Thank you for the tokens from 2023 & 2024. Based on this information, here is how to resolve this form error:
Open your return and go to Wages & Income >> Business Items >> Business Deductions and Credits.
Thank you @PatriciaV! Yes, it worked!!! But why are there inadequate instructions, and this info should have been populated by the software?!? How do I have confident in TurboTax next year?
Some users this year encountered missing carryover information when transferring a prior year return to the current tax year. We don't expect this to be an ongoing experience.
We at Intuit TurboTax want our users to be completely delighted with their experience using our products and services, and successful in their financial lives and businesses.
Once you file your return, as long as the settings to receive communication from Intuit don’t block it, you will see a pop-up message or receive an email with a survey asking you about your experience. We encourage you to leave your notes and comments there. “Voice of the Customer” notes and comments are read and acted upon.
If you are using TurboTax Desktop, you can also leave feedback at the Final Steps tab:
