Did you or will you get a tax form for the money that you earned - a W-2, 1099-NEC, 1099-MISC, or other form? Wait until you get the form. They have until the end of January to send it to you. When you get the form, if you have trouble entering it in TurboTax post back here and tell us what kind of form you got and what box of the form has the income in it.

If you do not get a form by early February, or you are 100% sure that you will not get a form, the income should go on Form 1040 line 1h, "Other earned income," not on Schedule 1. Here's how to enter it in TurboTax. This section is not yet ready in TurboTax for 2025. Check back in a couple of weeks.

  • Go to Federal Taxes > Wages & Income > Less Common Income > Miscellaneous Income > Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099.
  • The first screen asks "Did you receive any other wages?" Answer Yes.
  • The next three screens ask about income as a household employee, sick or disability pay, and Medicaid waiver payments. Click Continue on these screens without entering anything.
  • The next screen, Any Other Earned Income, asks "Did you earn any other wages?" Answer Yes.
  • The next screen asks for the source of the other earned income. Select Other.
  • On the next screen enter a short description, such as "Election worker," and enter the amount. Click Done.
