It shows I am a sole proprietor. I am not.  I am an independent contractor. How do I change this?

I'm not sure what kind of error you are experiencing? If you are a self-employed independent contractor and receive income through 1099-MISC Form. The income is reported on Schedule C of your 1040. The term sole-proprietorship means a single owner of a business which is the same as independent contractor.
