Form 4797 Incorrect Information

I have spent at least 2 hours trying to figure out the same thing!!  

When I entered in my rental information you get "review your xxxx property summary", there is a "sale of Property/depreciation" option that I used and that is what turbotax used to fill out the form 4797.  So select update for this option, then "yes, i want to go to my asset summary".  There will be a list of items that I have been depreciating and since the rental was sold "stop using".  Then TT has the "review information" displayed.  Then come the "did you stop using the asset in 2016"  answer is yes because the first option is "Sold".  Then comes disposition info.  Date sold, Date acquired.  continue again.   Then the "special handing required".  I think i selected yes before because the rental was primary home before being converted.  So i thought option one, "the business use percentage varied"  applied due some "help found on the site". Turns out TT can't handle the that and probably led to other bad things.  So select no.  Then have "home sale" was this a main home.   Select No.   Finally comes Sale information. which is MISSING THE GROSS PROCEEDS and place to enter the real cost basis and hence i think is how from 4797 is filled out wrong.  If enter in data and hit continue, get to the "results" which shows very large gain (due to incorrect basis above).   So go back to the entered the sale data and erase all that info, then hit continue, then search for "sale of rental property" this will get the "jump to sale of rental property" . check "sale of business property not reported" and this is where the real info can be entered.  for depreciation that can be found by going back what was on the old form 4797, just follow through the rental depreciation again.  from here the questions make sense and get 4797 filled out correctly.
