This is the cleanest way to fix the error without touching any of the forms.

  1. Go to Business Expenses > Other Common Business Expenses
  2. Look for the category "Energy Efficient Buildings".
  3. Click Update or Edit.
  4. You will see a 0 in the amount box. Delete the 0 so the box is empty. (Do not type "0.00" or a space—it must be blank).
  5. Click Continue or Done.

Hello. I have the same error message with the "0" on the form, but I can't find "Other Common Business Expenses" on the return in "Business Expenses." Searching for that term doesn't get me a result, nor does going through the "walk me through" process. Any advice on how to find the Energy Efficient Buildings category? Thanks.

It depends which version of TurboTax you are using. Under Business Expenses, look for "All Other Expenses" or under Deductions look for "Common Business Expenses".

If you're using the desktop version of TurboTax, go to Forms (icon in the header), open the Schedule C Worksheet and scroll down to the bottom of the expenses section. Remove the zero for Qualified Energy Efficient Commercial Buildings. Click on Step-by-Step to return to the main screens.
