Yes, it's normal. Box 1 will report all of the payments the school receives from you to pay qualified education expenses. Box 5 will be the amount of scholarships and grants that were paid directly to the school for your expenses. Keep in mind, the scholarships and grants may reduce the amount of qualified expenses you can use when calculating a deduction or credit.
