Method 1: Delete via the Tax Tools Menu (TurboTax Online)

To bypass the locked form loop, you must use the backend form-deletion tool rather than the standard step-by-step interview screens.

  • Log in to your return and look at the left-side menu panel.
  • Click on Tax Tools, then select Tools from the dropdown.
  • In the pop-up "Tool Center" box, select Delete a Form.
  • Scroll down until you find Schedule C - Car & Truck Expenses Worksheet (or any corresponding AMT Depreciation Report linked to the vehicle).
  • Click Delete next to the form and confirm the removal.
  • Click Continue with My Return at the bottom to refresh your data.

Method 2: Force Delete via "Forms Mode" (TurboTax Desktop)

If you are using the computer-installed software version, you can delete it directly from the active forms database.

  • Click the Forms icon in the top right/left corner of your screen to switch views.
  • Look at the left-side column listing all open forms. Look for the Car & Truck Wks (it will likely have a red exclamation mark next to it).
  • Select the worksheet, then click the Delete Form button located at the bottom of the screen (or press the DELETE key on your keyboard).
  • Confirm the removal to completely clear out the bad data loop.

Method 3: Fix the Error Manually (If you still need the worksheet)

If you actually need to claim a vehicle deduction but just want the AMT error fixed, you can override the calculation error:

  • The standard fix: Go back to the Business Income and Expenses (Schedule C) section, click Update next to Business Vehicle Expense, edit the vehicle, and mark it as "stopped using for business". When prompted for the sale/disposition, enter $0 for the sales price and leave the AMT Basis fields completely blank.
  • The override fix: If you are running the Desktop version, you can right-click on the flagged AMT line (usually Line 51 or 52 on the worksheet) while in Forms Mode and select Override to manually reduce the AMT depreciation amount to match or fall below your business basis.
