I get a deduction of $39,355 and Turbotax gets $40,000 (the maximum).

Turbo Tax is giving you the 40,000max but you only add up 39,355?   So you are $645 short?   What are you adding?  You could be missing some taxes from W2 box 14 or 19 or car registration fees.

Please clarify. Have you entered state and local taxes into TurboTax? If so, review your entries to see if your manual calculation included all of the different types of state and local taxes that TurboTax may have determined to be deductible up to $40,000.

See this TurboTax tips article for more information about the SALT deduction for 2025.

TurboTax calculations are 100% accurate and our software is tested and retested to ensure that you get your maximum refund, guaranteed. See this tax tips article for more information.

Thank you! The calculation was fine. I had forgotten the state income tax due, paid last year. I appreciate your help.
