how do I know which category to enter for box 14?

what does NFL and NSD mean in box14?

Your employer can enter various abbreviations in box 14 to describe what is being reported there. You would have to ask your employer for clarification. The amount entered in box 14 has no direct impact your tax return, but it is advisable to learn what is being reported there as it may affect other entries you are asked to make on your tax return.
