Will my taxes owed be taken out of direct deposit or do I need to mail a check?

Hi,

I filed my taxes yesterday and owed several thousand dollars. I opted to have the IRS take it out of my checking account. Today however I received a notice that one of my brokerage accounts updated a 1099 DIV form so I filed an amended return. The difference was not very much, I owed only 75 dollars less than the original amount. When TurboTax asked, I requested a paper check of the 75 difference as a refund. When I printed out the paperwork, it now prints out a paper voucher instructing me to mail in the payment of several thousand dollars. I also filed an amended return with the state of Georgia. So now I don't know what is going to happen-is the IRS going to deduct the amount from my checking or do I need to mail it in?

Also do I need to mail in the amended return? It said on the initial screen that all amended returns must be sent by mail, but later it gave me the option to e-file, which I did.

Thanks for any help!

It's will be surprising that your amended return will be or has been accepted so soon after filing the original. The general advice is that you have to wait until your original return is fully processed before filing an amended one. We have no way of knowing what will happen.

the amended return you filed was incorrect since it did not reflect what you authorized to be paid with your original return. Turbotax does not assume it was paid on the amended return. That's why it shows you owe thousands.

at this point hope the amended return is rejected. if not, you can try calling the IRS to explain but do not file another amended return.
