Will applying overpayments to the next Year’s Return stop a federal refund offset for child support?
We are receiving a refund but will probably owe taxes next year. Our refund is taken to pay back child support. If we apply our refund to next year's taxes, will that stop them from taking our refund to pay the back child support?

Nope. That back child support will be paid, one way or the other when you get down to brass tacks. Even after the person who is obligated to pay it, dies. The IRS will take it out of any remaining estate when that happens.

No, that will not stop it.
