Will a payment delay my refund?

I amended my return which required that I send in a payment, which I have done. Will they need to process my amendment before I receive my refund?

No, the amended return and original return are processed as two different tax returns. The original return will process and if you are due a refund that will be issued. They will process the amended return separately and will process that payment.

In fact you are not suppose to amend until your return is fully processed and you get the first refund.  Did your first refund show up on the amended return?  So the amended return is only for the difference you owed back?
