Why there is a processing fee

If you choose to pay the fee for your return out of your refund, Turbotax charges a refund processing fee. The reason for that is that Turbotax has to intercept your refund so that they can get paid. To do that, they have a partner business, a bank, create an account for you, they have the IRS direct deposit your refund to the account that was set up at the partner bank, the partner bank takes your fee out and pays it to Turbotax, then they send your refund to your checking account. Doing that costs money so the partner bank also takes from your refund their cost for providing the service and sends you what is left.
