Please explain what you mean when you say they "took out ssi."
If you have a W-2 job, the employer must withhold money for Social Security and Medicare---is that what you mean? You do not get that back as an income tax refund. The amount you might get back for a refund is the amount in box 2 for federal tax withheld, or the amount in box 17 for state tax withheld. The amount you get back depends on your tax liability---based on how much you earned, your filing status, how many dependents you have, etc. etc. etc.
