Returns are usually
accepted within 48 hours, but can take up to 72 hours. While your return is
pending acceptance they are checking your personal information to make sure it
matches their records, sometimes that can take them a little longer than the average estimated
time. With the recent changes in the tax code, it may take a little
longer than what you are used to for the returns to be processed.
You can follow these steps to contact the IRS about
your return: Call the IRS at this number: 800-829-0582 (IRS phone
support) Press 1 for English, then enter extension 652. Please be aware that
there are reported 40 minute average hold times.
If you suspect your refund is being held, or are
concerned about the status of your return and it has been more than 21 days
since your return was accepted, sometimes people make progress
contacting their local IRS center or a Taxpayer Advocate.
