Has your initial filing been fully processed and paid? What is the reason you are amending? The IRS catches some mistakes and adjusts automatically.
When I go into my return for 2021 to amend. It tells me I owe $1000 before I do anything. On the summary of taxes there is a column that shows previous filing. It shows I claimed $45,000 as previous amount claimed for Estimated taxes. When I go to the form in the return that shows estimated taxes it shows the correct amount of $44,00. On summary of taxes due $44,000 is the correct amount. No idea where the $45,000 comes from.
But have you filed the original return yet, and was it accepted? If not, you are not amending, but rather just correcting.
