When is the irs accepting returns

The IRS won't open and start taking returns until January 23. Until then it will just sit on Turbo Tax servers.

And they won't necessarily be accepted on that date.

There are millions of files waiting to be checked and processed..........it may take a whole week for the IRS to work thru them.
