What the heck! Filed, not processed, now refund amt changed in TT

OK, I filed my taxes 4/13.   Intuit says return accepted by IRS.  IRS app says return being processed, no info.  IRS account says no return processed.

So I sign into TT to verify the date I filed and it goes through updates.... and the refund amount is now $900 more than what was on the return I actually filed.

This tax year is a total cluster****.  No ability to contact the IRS.  NONE.  I've even tried employees I know who work in other departments, no luck.

Is the difference in the unemployment numbers? How do I get that additional money (Which doesn't come close to what I paid to the IRS in taxes on UE)?  Do I have to file an amended return? (Which I wouldn't do until they actually process the current return and refund.)

If you filed before the $10,200 unemployment exclusion, the IRS will recalculate your return for you. There is no need for taxpayers to file an amended return unless the calculations make the taxpayer newly eligible for additional federal credits and deductions not already included on the original tax return.

You may need to amend your state return

If you didn't file until April 13 the program should have been updated and included the 10,200 unemployment exclusion.  Since you have the Desktop program look at the forms.  See what is changed from your actual return.  And be sure to update your program.

Your unemployment compensation will be on Schedule 1 line 7. The exclusion will be on Schedule 1 Line 8 as a negative number. The result flows to Form 1040 Line 8.
