Can the IRS get me my money any faster? My husband and I separated for 18 months 4 years ago and child support was established. We have since reconciled but it costs too much in court fees to end the child support payments. So we just let it automatically be taken from his checks, deposit into my eppicard account and every few weeks/months I withdraw it. There was a time period that he was between jobs and had a back support of $2000 built up. We didn’t get $967 of our refund bc it went to paying the back support (tax offset). When I check the child support portal, that money is “on hold” because typically the ‘injured spouse’ (presumably the ex husbands new wife) could claim that half of that refund is HERS so the IRS/child support enforcement agency holds it for SIX Months. I am the recipient of the child support AND the ‘injured spouse’. Who can I call to expedite this 6 months hold? We could really use an extra $900 right now!
