Used wrong form

So in February of 2019, I won a contest through Tim Hortons (in Michigan), the prize was a $2500 prepaid Visa card. I never received a tax form for it and tried to find out what I needed, but to no avail. So when we filed I just put a claim down under a W2-G I think it was, for $2500 and there was definitely money deducted from what we would've received. Then over a month after we filed I finally received the form in the mail and now I don't know how much trouble I'm in. Lol What do I do??

You will still need to amend your return. The IRS will reach out to you if you need to do anything furthur after amending.

You need to amend your return to add the new form and delete the W-2G.

If your return is accepted, wait until your return has been fully processes and you received your refund ( if you are expecting a refund ), then amend your return.

Here's how you amend your return:

  1. Sign in to your account.
  2. Scroll down to Your tax return & documents , select 2019 and then Amend (change) return
  3. Select Amend using TurboTax Online.
  4. Follow the instructions, your refund or tax due will change to 0. This is normal on amended returns.

Amended return can't be e-file, you need to print it and mail it in.

Aaand what if I've already received my refund? Like I said its been like 1 1/2 months since we filed. They took their sweet time getting the form to me so I filed and got our return in February.
