After filing my taxes there was an update to Turbotax. Does this efect my already filed return?

Critical updates are done in advance and should not impact your tax return. 

Always print a copy of your completed tax return for your records, and review it carefully before e-Filing.If an update changes the TurboTax calculation of tax, you need that paper copy to do your amended return.

If you are receiving a message that your printer firmware needs to be updated, that is not coming from TurboTax, but it is coming from the printer itself. You will need to follow the printers manufacturer's guide to performing the update.

In previous as well as this year, I get the program in Dec to preplan and file early. I also have to access previous year's returns to verify things. Multiple times I had to wait for updates on those previously filed returns, including this year's. What happens if my filed return is now wrong? Will the IRS fine me. Are you saying I have to periodically  check for updates and file an amended return after every one?
