Hello:
Early this morning (about 5 hours ago), I e-filed my Federal and state taxes through TurboTax desktop. I hit the "transmit" button, it seemed to transmit and then stopped, with no notification of any kind. I have not received any email notice, except a receipt for the state e-filing fee from Intuit. When in TurboTax, I look at "check filing", TurboTax says I haven't e-filed anything. I hesitate to transmit a second time, for fear that IRS will get 2 identical copies and cause all sorts of headaches. Yes to transmit a second time, or wait??
Thanks.

It is not possible to e-file the same tax return twice. Another attempt using the same Social Security number would be rejected. Check your emails including your spam folder.
Did you e-file? Did you click a big orange button that said “Transmit my returns now?”
When you e-file your federal return you will receive two emails from TurboTax. The first one will say that your return was submitted. The second email will tell you if your federal return was accepted or rejected. If you e-filed a state return, there will be a third email to tell you if the state accepted or rejected your state return.
First, check your e-file status to see if your return was accepted:

If the IRS accepted it, what does it say here?
Or does your account say “Ready to Mail?”
Note: If it says “Ready to Mail” or “Printed” that means YOU have to mail it yourself. TurboTax does not mail your tax return for you.
Thanks.
Yes, I used the "transmit returns now" button. I recall seeing the "clock" diagram for a few seconds and then nothing. I have checked regular email as well as the "junk" folder; and there is nothing from TurboTax indicating that returns were transmitted.
I assume from your answer as well as the tax program telling me I still need to e-file that, for whatever reason, the returns were not successfully transmitted.
So I will try to transmit a second time.
Appreciate the information that a second e-file to the IRS is not possible.
