I have had to amend return 2 years because your software defaults to "SINGLE" although I am a
"Head of Household". Furthermore, it does not list all the "qualifying dependents" in the drop-down which forced me to pick "OTHER" & automatically defaults to "SINGLE" which is wrong. I cannot override the form it is greyed out. This is a software error as "Sister-In-Law" is a qualifying dependent under the IRS definitions and I should be able to claim HOH. I have a "Sister-In-Law" I support and now I have to amend 2 years return due to issues with all options based on qualifying dependent not being available on your 2019 and 2020 sofware.
This is a software issue that TurboTax is responsible for correction. This is negatively affecting me as now I have to file 2 1040X one for 2019 & I have to wait until 2020 taxes are processed and amend these. My dependent has not gotten their Recovery Act stimulus $ 1400 for 2020 and they should have.
Why can't TT have the correct dependent drop-down instead of just other. This is a programming issue on Intuit's part and needs to be resolved. It is causing me unnecessary headaches and issues. I posted this over 2 hours ago and no one has responded.

To clarify, did your sister-in-law meet the other dependent tests - lived with you over six months and earned less than $4,300 last year? She needs to meet these factors as well in order for you to be able to use her to qualify you for Head of Household. You should also verify that she is not on her spouse's tax return either year.
Head of Household - Qualifying Person Rules
Yes she meets the standards. She is not on my ex's return. He lives in another City and she needs access to her Dr's.
We do not support claiming dependents in these situations. If this applies to you, we recommend you see a tax professional.
When the information is entered, TurboTax states while an in-law can be claimed as a dependent, it would not be supported to change your filing status to head of household.
