Trying to amend a 2021 tax return

I am trying to do an amendment to my 2021 taxes.  I uploaded the 2021 turbotax.amend but I keep getting an error message when I am trying to upload my original return.  It won't open my file and says try using my back-up file which I don't have.   The instructions are not clear.

Is there a error code or what is the exact error message?  I don’t know but it might be this….

After you get the program installed or reinstalled the first thing to do before you open your tax return is to update the program and install any state programs you had. Then open your file. So you first might need to start a fake return to be able to download the state program (go to File-New Tax Return).

Then go to FILE -Open and find your return.
