Trouble saving my tax file

I am using the TurboTax Premier edition for doing my 2023 taxes. I downloaded the file from Turbotax. I am using an iMac desktop computer.

1.) I cannot save the file as message reads "Document cannot be determined".

2.) I have tried "Save As" in the message box and can't save the file to either an external thumb drive (as in the past years), my iMac or on the Desktop-icloud.

3.) Most of the solutions here relate to Microsoft Windows and that doesn't help me.

Any suggestions?

If you can't save the file you downloaded, check to confirm that the file you downloaded was the Mac version.

Here are the minimum system requirements for Mac for 2023.

See this help article for instructions to find a TurboTax for Mac download on your computer.

See the link in this help article for instructions to switch between PC and Mac if necessary.

See instructions in this help article to install TurboTax Desktop for Mac.

This help article addresses the situation where TurboTax for Mac won't open after it was installed.

Trouble saving my tax file

I did select the TuboTax Premier for Mac to download. The file downloaded correctly, but, again, I couldn't "save" the file. If you can't "save" the file, you can't complete your tax return. Any other ideas?

To resolve the not-saving issue, another user (see this thread) reported that if you go to

System Preferences >

Security & Privacy>

Privacy.

then scroll down to the folder that says Full Disk Access, you should then see a window where both the 2022 and 2023 Turbo Tax icons should be checked. If they are not checked, then unlock the lock and go in and check them both.

If Turbo Tax isn't there, you can add it by using the "+" sign. To put the check mark there, you have to use your password to unlock the Security settings.

Another recommendation:

1) Restart the Mac.

If the error persists then:

2) Use top menu bar File -> (hold Option key down) and Save As and save it to your User desktop.

See also this Apple discussion thread for more information, including saving read-only files.
