If you amended for the tax law changes that the IRS is correcting for automatically then the amendment was probably ignored since the original return has not yet fully processed... sadly doing this could have caused the additional wait time. You can try calling the IRS first thing at 7am to see if you can get a human otherwise all you can do is wait.
Updated instructions:
Call the IRS at 800-829-1040 between 7 AM - 7 PM local time Monday-Friday
I originally filed in Feb. I had already received a refund from the IRS in the amount of $595 in April. The on may 18th 2021 I amended my taxes since I was told I would have to. I did through turbo tax. It was accepted. On July 31 2021 the IRS website where's my amended refund said that my amended return had been adjusted. On Aug 20 2021 the website said that my amended return had been processed and was complete. It also stated I should recieve a letter explaining the adjustment, which I still haven't received. I just out of curiosity went over to the IRS website where's my return for regular returns knowing I had already received my return previously. When my regular return was processed it said completed. So I checked it anyway and now it says my return was received and is being processed. Which makes no sense to me. I have called every number I can get for them and have been told quit rudely that I needed to call the refund department and not them. That the other depts. Don't handle returns (collection dept you can get on the phone with the quickness, just saying) . I'm not going to worry about it. Hopefully they will figure it out next tax season.
OK ... the original return was processed and the original refund was released ... good step 1 done. Now the IRS has to recalculate the change that you did NOT have to amend the return for and they are not yet done doing those and there is no way to track it's progress which is why you are not getting an answer. The fact that the amended return was even considered before the IRS correction would be out of character for them this year ... again it is possible that the amended return in the system slowed up the process so all you can do now is wait.
