Tax return help needed now

Hello.

I filed my 2021 Federal tax return on February 7th, 2022, online, and am still being processed. However, I noticed on the W-2 that an error is made - the first digit of my SSN is incorrect and now I'm wondering If I need to amend my tax return while still being processed? On my federal return, the SSN is correct with the IRS, but I also made an error on my State Return and W-2 just the first digit is incorrect on my SSN. I'm filing a first-time state return and I'm off by one digit on my SSN there. Both returns are processed. What do I do now?

My employer needs to void the W-2 or file another form with the correct SSN, twice the W-2 is showing an incorrect SSN.

Please help.

Thanks

You didn't do anything wrong.  Your employer made an error and they need to issue a W2C that shows the correct social security number on it.  You can't fix this issue by amending your return.  The reason your return is still processing is that the W2s don't match and the IRS can't match your W2s.  You need to contact your employer.

    Thanks.

But what about  State Return on the W-2 just the first digit is incorrect on my SSN there too.

If you are talking about the W-2 for your state return having the incorrect Social Security number, then it is the same situation as with the Federal return.  Your employer will need to make the correction with both Federal and state.
