Tax question please help

Hi.  I wanted to amend my 2021 return and add a dependent that qualifies as a dependent. I didn't owe or get a refund on the original refund.  When I add a dependent on my 2021 amended return it, still shows I don't get a refund? Why? Thank you!

If the dependent that you added is not your child under age 17, then you would have a non-refundable credit of $500. If you had no tax liability in 2021, that would not change your return.

Did you add a dependent in order to seek the 2021 EIP payment?   You have to use the recovery rebate credit in Federal Review to get to that credit.
