If I filed my Federal return and owed money and put in my banking info for the direct debit of the payment due, will that have an impact on getting the stimulus check direct deposited?

According to the IRS they cannot use banking information for a direct debit, they would issue you a check.

You can try to enter your direct deposit information on the IRS website, Get My Payment.  There have been glitches with the app so if you cannot enter your banking information you would need to wait for a check.

    IRS Get My Payment.

Use the "Get My Payment" application to:

    • Check your payment status
    • Confirm your payment type: direct deposit or check
    • Enter your bank account information for direct deposit if we don't have your direct deposit information and we haven't sent your payment yet
