Return rejected

Only recently have I become aware, as Turbotax/IRS records confirm, that I had worked on my tax return in 2022 but neglected to file it. So now I have filed a 2022 return belatedly. IRS has rejected it for the following reason:

"Your signature date must be on or after 01/01/2023 through 12/31/2023."

I had entered the date 04/14/2024. Apparently that was the reason for the return being rejected.

Please advise me on how to correct this.

E-filing has been permanently closed for 2022 returns since October 2023.  The only way to file a 2022 return is by mail. Print, sign and date it in ink, and mail it in.

When you mail a tax return, you need to attach any documents showing tax withheld, such as your W-2’s or any 1099’s.  Use a mailing service that will track it, such as UPS or certified mail so you will know the IRS/state received the return.

Federal and state returns must be in separate envelopes and they are mailed to different addresses.  Read the mailing instructions that print with your tax return carefully so you mail them to the right addresses.
