Why is my refund amount so much less than it was last year when I only made a couple thousand more dollars?

You are most likely now in a higher tax bracket.  As little as making $100 more can put you in a higher tax bracket than last year.  No one here can see your returns, you can compare your last years returns with this years to see the actual difference.
